In 1631 the Dutch established a settlement in Lewes, Delaware, which was soon massacred.
Settlers later returned to the area. This placemark indicates the Cannonball House, 118 Front Street. The British bombarded Lewes during the War of 1812; a cannonball struck the foundation of this house and lodged there. You can still see it today. Lewes has a website with a picture of the house and other late eighteenth-century structures. Download 1631LewesDelaware.kmz (0.8K).
